Cosmetics are worn everyday by people, but for some, that can be a very painful experience. If you have sensitive skin, the application of something seemingly innocent like foundation, powder or lipstick can cause a chain reaction of red, itchy skin, broken skin, bumps, and rashes. This is your skin telling you that it does not like one or more of the ingredients in the makeup that you are using. If you find that you have sensitive skin, the switch to mineral makeup, one of several nontoxic cosmetics available on the market today, will be astounding.

There are some makeup ingredients that may cause flareups in your skin that you might not expect to be the culprit. One of those ingredients is paraben, which is added to commonly used personal care products such as shampoo, lotions, toothpaste, shaving gel and others as a preservative that combats the formation of bacteria and fungus in products. The problem with parabens is that some concerns have been raised about parabens possible link as a carcinogen, as well as the effect it is reputed to have on estrogen. To err on the side of safety, many people now choose paraben free cosmetics, and paraben free skincare products.

When you decide to buy cosmetics online, be sure to look up mineral cosmetics. Mineral makeup is allergen and toxin free, and thus safe to use on even sensitive skin. Mineral cosmetics are also paraben free cosmetics, so you know that they will be safe to use and soothing to your delicate skin.

Mineral cosmetics are beautiful and fun to wear. You will find all of the different varieties of makeup that you commonly wear, such as concealer, foundation, powder, eye liner, mascara, eye shadows, blush and lipstick, all available as paraben free skincare products. You will want to make sure that you have the appropriate applicators and brushes for applying cosmetics made from minerals, because with proper application they offer a smooth finish for your skin that looks natural yet covers blemishes well.

Those who suffer from acne often find relief by switching to nontoxic cosmetics made from minerals. Because mineral makeup does not clog your pores, it tends to be very helpful in clearing up acne, and at the same time making you look beautiful.

It is a great deal of fun to buy cosmetics online, because you can shop at your convenience in the privacy of your home, and compare products to find the best nontoxic cosmetics made from minerals that work well with your complexion and highlight your beauty.

I think it’s the nature of every skincare cosmetics consumer to wonder if there’s a better product out there. We truly are a fickle bunch of consumers. This month you use this skin cream, but next month, it’s a different one. I can’t fault you though; there are so many aging skincare products on the shelf. And a lot of them simply don’t work. But, let’s face it, with each disappointing skin cream, you become a little more lost in how to fight the slow creep of skin aging…

Don’t give up!

Finding effective aging skincare products is a frustrating, costly process, but you can remove a lot of that frustration. By putting each new product you come across through a pre-purchase test, you can weed out all the poor and mediocre skincare cosmetics. You may already do something like this, if so, that’s excellent. Let’s build on it. However, if doing this is new to you, that’s okay too; you will gain a lot of confidence in your purchases once this becomes a habit.

So what is this pre-purchase test?

As a skincare consumer, my approach to buying products has evolved a great deal. When I was younger, I would buy skin creams based on little more than a brand name or a friend’s advice. Luckily, skin looks naturally good when you’re young, because I bought some absolute garbage products. But, as I got older, I started to learn about skin aging and my approach to skincare cosmetics became much more scientific (as you’ll see).

First, did you know there are three root causes of skin aging? It’s true, here they are:

  1. The production of collagen and elastin slows down.
  2. The level of hyaluronic acid slowly decreases.
  3. Free radicals attack skin cells causing oxidative damage.

These root causes are actually natural processes and they become more destructive to your skin’s appearance as you age. This pre-purchase test is simple then. It’s determining whether an aging skincare cream targets and reverses these major skin agers.

Let’s focus in one one of these root causes—hyaluronic acid. Out of the three, this one is probably the least familiar to you. Hyaluronic acid gives collagen and elastin fibers their stickiness. But as you age, a harmful enzyme called hyaluronidase activates and slowly starts breaking down hyaluronic acid in your body. As the supply decreases and collagen and elastin lose their “glue”, skin loses its glow and dark circles often show up under the eyes.

So how do you maintain the level of hyaluronic acid?

You need to block the enzyme hyaluronidase’s harmful action.

One natural substance with this power is called Phytessence Wakame. It’s an extract from a species of sea kelp found in the Sea of Japan. If you’ve ever wondered how Japanese women age so gracefully, well, this kelp isone of theirnatural beauty secrets. It’s a common food in Japan. So that’s one thing I look for in skincare cosmetics—Phytessence Wakame. But, remember, this pre-purchase test is three-pronged, because there are three root causes of skin aging.

Would you liketo continue learning about this approach to aging skincare? If so, I encourage you to visit my website and learn about the other two big skin agers and how to effectively combat them. Visit now and start applying this pre-purchase test; you’ll identify the best skincare cosmetics with ease and confidence.

Eye Makeup Tips - How To Apply Eyeliner

In this article we take a look at how to apply eyeliner with some tips on achieving some great effects.

One stunning effect that can be achieved easily and a favorite of such well-known actresses from Marlene Dietrich and Marilyn Monroe to Gwyneth Paltrow, is rimming the eyes with either a white or beige eye pencil. This has the effect of enlarging the white of the eye to create a seductive, alluring look.

To apply the eye pencil, pull your lid away from the eye very gently using one or two fingers and draw a line along the inner eye rims. Do the same with both the upper and lower lids. To make a sharpened pencil softer and easier to apply, you can draw a few lines first on the back of your hand. This will soften the tip and get the color flowing.

Kohl can be applied in the same way with sensational effect. The use of kohl goes back to ancient Egyptian times and is characteristic of eye makeup in the Middle and Far East. Apply your kohl pencil as described above to both the upper and lower rims, from corner to corner. Then, using either a sponge-tipped applicator, eyeshadow brush, or even your fingertip, blend the color by smudging it to create a smoky effect.

Once you are satisfied with the appearance, you will need to set it by using a light application of loose powder. For an even stronger, more intense effect, apply your preferred color around the eyes in either cream, liquid or powder form.

If you want to use liquid eyeliner, once you’ve mastered the technique of applying it, this can be a quick method of achieving a stunning and sophisticated look. But applying liquid eyeliner can take a little practice.

To begin, it’s best to be in front of a good magnifying mirror, so that your eyes are magnified sufficiently to see very clearly what you are about to do and ensure a smooth application of the liquid eyeliner. Then, using your free hand, start by pulling the eyelid taut. If you’re right-handed it’s probably easiest for you to start applying the liquid from left-to-right, as if you are writing, and vice versa if you are left-handed. Draw across in a single continuous fine line. If you want a thicker line then, at the end of the run, simply retrace.

A tip when applying liquid eyeliner is to apply it as close as possible to the eyelashes, even running into the eyelashes. This will avoid you getting that annoying white line effect between the lashes and the liner when the two don’t meet.

Applying liquid eyeliner does take some practice, so have a bottle of makeup remover to hand until you are confident in the technique. As they say: ‘practice makes perfect’, and with a little perseverance and a steady hand you’ll soon be achieving some great effects.

Makeup Beauty Tips

Here are some tips for applying makeup that you can use to enhance your looks and feel great. According to archaeological evidence, cosmetics have been in use since 4,000 BC in Ancient Egypt. It was also used by the Ancient Greeks and the Romans. Through the medieval age, the use of cosmetics in the West was usually confined to the upper classes. Cosmetics were also widely used in what is known today as Iran as well as the Middle East.

Hence, as is evident, all through the ages women have contrived various means and ways to enhance their appearance. They experimented with a variety of lotions and potions to improve and preserve their beauty. This age we live in is the era of vivacity, energy, and youthful looks. In fact, both men and women want to look their best in order to project an attractive personality. These days, appearance plays an important role, both in the workplace as well as in social gatherings. Looking your best can be a confidence booster, for this is the age of the smart and the beautiful.

Every woman has attributes and qualities that are unique and beautiful. The makeup beauty tips given below will help in highlighting the plus points, enhancing them so that they can be noticed.

First, after cleansing your skin, apply a moisturizer. Your skin requires the extra moisture. Then, choosing the right kind of foundation is the next step for getting a beautiful makeover. Most women’s skin is yellow-based, including most Caucasians, Latin Americans, Asians and Africans. However, most foundations available in the market are orange or pink toned. Hence, women using these foundations usually end up with an artificial look. You need to choose a foundation that has a yellow base in order to create the naturally flawless look.

The best way to put on the foundation is to dot your chin, cheeks, nose and forehead with small amounts of it. Then, using a slightly damp cloth or a sponge, smoothen the foundation over your face, blending it well into the skin. Pay particular attention to the jaw line, chin, and hairline. Always smoothen the foundation in an upward motion.

Use a concealer to cover blemishes on the skin. Liquid concealers are the best for using under the eyes to conceal dark circles and on dry skin. Solid concealers, on the other hand, are used to hide scars, pimples, and acne. These are available as sticks and hence can be used directly on the spot where it is required. If you have a sensitive skin, use concealers that have mineral colors.

When applying your eye shadow, remember to always begin with the highlighter shade. Brush it on under the outer edge of the eyebrows and blend it toward the inner edge of the eyebrows. Then, apply the eye shadow, starting at the center of the eyelids.

The key to creating sparkling eyes is using eye shadows that are light in color such as beige, mauve, brown or vanilla. You can also play around with the undertone shades of your skin by opting for colors like olive, gold, gray or purple. If you want to be adventurous, why not try tan, bronze or any of the shimmering translucent powders. Or, you could even combine two colors to create a layered look. By all means experiment, but make sure not to overdo it.

After the eye shadow, apply mascara. In fact, one of the best ways to add a dramatic effect to the eyes is by using mascara. Use clear mascara or a shade of brown to achieve the no makeup look. Curl your eyelashes to get that innocent wide-eyed look. However, you need to curl the eyelashes before applying mascara, and also it is not advisable to curl the lower lashes as they tend to fall off.

When choosing lipstick, take into consideration the color of your hair. Orange shades, for example, go very well with dark hair. Scarlet shades are great with blonde hair, and pink shades look lovely with grey hair. Use a lip liner to define your mouth, reshape your lips, and even to correct uneven shapes. Plus, a lip liner will prevent the lipstick from bleeding, and if you fill your lips with it before applying the lipstick, it will make the lipstick last longer.

And as a finishing touch brush on a blush. The best way to choose a color is to find one that is about the same shade as your skin when it is flushed, say after exercising. You could slap your cheek lightly to get the color and use it as a guide. Or, you could use a blush that matches your lipstick. Rose looks great with fair color, peach shades with olive skin, and an apricot shade with dark skin. If you have dry skin use a cream based blush, and if your skin is oily, gel and liquid blushes are great. For a more luminous result, you could combine the two.

The cult of looking beautiful is not the prerogative of the privileged women any longer. Using cosmetics to enhance one’s looks is not a luxury but a social fact today. It has become a priority for most women on the move in the social scale of success. Makeup is about your looks, your face, your style, your aspirations. It is about women enhancing, changing, and discovering their hidden potential. It is about a woman saying, "Look at me - I am beautiful!"

Stop Using Mineral Oil Now!

What is Mineral Oil? Is it Harmful to You? Why is Mineral Oil in so many of the skin care products?

Mineral Oil is derived from Petroleum. Yes, petroleum. It is colorless, transparent, odorless, and tasteless. It has occlusive properties. In plain English it means it sits on top of the skin. It does not allow the skin to breath. It clogs the pores in high concentrations. What should that mean to you? If you or your baby uses products with mineral oil you may be exposing your skins to unnecessary alterations of the skin’s function.

Think about the skin’s function. First remember the skin is the largest organ of our body. The skin is the covering for our muscles, tendons, bones, and ligaments. The skin end on end is over 16 feet long. That is hard to imagine! The skin is a protective layer from the environment. It filters the toxins in the air and what ends up on our skin. Mineral Oil can prevent the skin from working effectively.

The skin has so many functions. It is our temperature regulator, UV protector, protector against bacteria, and injury to name a few. The skin’s role in our body function is very important. It is a big responsibility to take care of our skin. To allow the skin to function at the most optimum use good skin care products and avoid products with Mineral Oil.

Mineral Oil is very cheap. It is easily accessible and frequently used in cosmetics and skin preparations. It some circumstances under medical treatment Mineral Oil can be effective for treating certain skin conditions and traumatic injuries such as burns. Unlike our skin in normal circumstances sometimes the skin needs the protective barrier to prevent the skin from being exposed to the environment.

Do your skin a favor, save the Mineral Oil for necessary medical treatments. Read your skin care labels!

Frugal Tips - Tricks With Lipstick.

That tube of lipstick, melted or not can be used to substitute other makeup products. Here’s how you can get the most out of a tube of lipstick.

What do you do if your favourite lipstick melted in the summer heat?

Don’t throw it away. That would be wasteful. You can still use it with the help of a lip brush. No doubt, it wouldn’t be as glamorous or convenient as slicking it on straight from the tube, but you can still get the pretty look by dipping your lip brush into the melted lipstick and painting it onto your lips.

You can also turn some of your lipstick into a lip gloss.

Do you have a tiny travel size cream jar that’s empty? Wash and dry the jar. Then fill half of that jar with Vaseline. Some women swear by that gooey stuff. It can also be used as a colorless lip gloss and to moisturize dry lips and dry skin while you sleep. Use a clean brush to scoop some lipstick and mix it with the vaseline. For a light hint of color, a little lipstick should do the trick. If you want more color, add in more lipstick. You can even combine more than one lip color to get your ideal shade, for your perfect lip gloss.

Instead of a cream blush, you can save money by using your favourite lipstick as a cream blush. Just take a tiny dab of lipstick and apply that to the apples of your cheeks, then blend it in for that rosy glow. No need to worry about whether your blusher matches your lipstick. By getting your lipstick to double up as cheek color, you’d be certain your lipstick and cheek color match. Only catch is that if you have acne prone skin it might clog your pores. If you are prone to acne, you should stick to powder cheek color as lipstick on cheeks might give you pimples.

Natural Mineral Makeup

The use of minerals found in nature to create beauty products - a blessing to womankind.

Natural Mineral Makeup

As is implied by the name, natural mineral makeup is made up of mineral elements. Natural minerals are finely milled, powdered and made pure in form before they are used in mineral makeup products. Each product is created by mixing minerals with other inorganic pigments to create a wider color palette. These products are made up of microscopic flat crystals that overlap each other on the skin to offer a layer that protects the skin from pollutants and allows it to breathe. Mineral makeup is ideal for people with problematic skin and fines lines as it offers a long lasting effect and lightweight feel. A word of caution, use mineral makeup in small quantities only, too much will only make you look overdone.

Bare Mineral Makeup
Loose mineral cosmetics are bare cosmetics. Such products do not have preservatives, oils or waxes in them. Bare mineral makeup powders can be used to cover up imperfections and accentuate your good features.

Permanent Cosmetics As A Profession

Permanent cosmetics and career information.

Permanent cosmetics involve the use of tattoos as cosmetics. Rather than apply your lipstick and eyeliner every morning, and then touch it up all day long, you have your lips and eyes permanently tattooed so that they need no maintenance at all. In fact, you can have your whole face made up perfectly, to include eyebrows, eyeliner, eye shadow, and full lip color, so that you need never use cosmetics again. Professionals and stay at home mothers alike will have hours of more free time every day, while still looking their best.

This is at one end of the scale. The other is the man or woman who has been involved in an accident, leaving unsightly scars. What can be done in this situation? A technique called scar camouflage can be used to make some scars less apparent. Pigment can be matched to the client’s natural skin tones to even out the light colored scar tissue. While not completely covering a scar, it can make it less apparent.

Of course this is just a cosmetic change, however to this client it can totally change their life and and help them gain self confidence in public. Would it not make you feel warm inside to know that it might have been you that changed that person’s life? Permanent cosmetics can make that change, so would it not make a wonderful career? Absolutely!

So let’s say you did want to take up this worthwhile skill as a professional. What is involved in permanent cosmetics training and licensing? Are there real opportunities available , or is it a closed shop? In fact there are many opportunities available for individuals of different backgrounds. People as diverse as doctors, nurses, tattoo artists, and cosmetologists are expressing an interest in this remarkable art, having seen first hand how life-changing its effects can be. State laws vary, and the first step in your journey would be to check your state laws regarding educational and licensing requirements. Usually the state department of health oversees permanent cosmetic licensing.

What types of skills are required? Many of the procedures used are artistic, such as drawing beautiful eyebrows. Others require paramedical skills and some knowledge of medical issues. A good eye for skin tones and color matching helps. Most of these skills are taught in beginning and advanced permanent makeup classes. The secret is finding good education !

Once you have been suitably trained, imagine owning your own clinic and operating in conjunction with other professionals such as physicians, estheticians, makeup artists, etc. The opportunities are almost unlimited. Referral business is the name of the game ! Once you establish your good reputation in the community, then business will come from all directions.

Cosmetics of any sort are currently big business and offer many opportunities for high earnings. Pricing for permanent makeup procedures ranges from $300 to $800 per procedure, depending on many factors. Those working in a physicians’ clinic usually charge more than those working in a salon or day spa. A tattoo artist or cosmetologist may charge less, however still command prices in the range of $300 to $400 per procedure. How many people do you personally know who can earn an average of $200 to $300 per hour?

Imagine the potential of being able to offer permanent cosmetics, and even having these procedures done on yourself? No more need to open that lipstick tube. No more spending ages in front of the mirror each morning. Just a quick shower and off to the clinic or gym!

However, that is the personal side of the career. It is also satisfying to help others like the client with facial scarring whose life was transformed by the use of a camouflage technique. Not all rewards are paid in cash. These are the potential benefits of a career in permanent cosmetics. The fun of setting up a group or practice of like-minded people offering a complete cosmetic service, and owning your own business. The potential high earnings to secure your future. The more intangible rewards of providing real help to people in real need.

Your training should be professional and offered by an educator who has a good reputation and credentials in the industry. The Society of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals can help you find a suitable course and permanent cosmetics training school that will turn you into the professional that you want to be. After reviewing the the SPCP’s guildelines on choosing a school, you will be well prepared to begin your search for education.

Concerned About Cosmetics Safety?

How do you know that the cosmetics you’re using are safe and won’t cause any reactions? How do you know they are safe? Find out about the types of cosmetics you should be using.

Are Cosmetics Safe?

In the United States, cosmetics are being used by teens at a younger and younger age, and cosmetic safety has become quite a problem.Cosmetics can become contaminated with bacteria that the brush or applicator sponge picks up from the skin. The top dangers of cosmetic use are wearing cosmetics to bed, sharing cosmetics, and aerosol fumes. Scratching yourself with a mascara wand is the number one injury caused by cosmetics and the scratches can become infected.

The most irritating ingredients in cosmetics are preservatives, fragrance, talc and dye. It is unfortunate that the preservatives which prevent bacterial growth are also very detrimental your skin.

It is not surprising, therefore, that there is an increased interest in organic and natural cosmetics. The two main categories of safer cosmetics are hypoallergenic cosmetics and mineral cosmetics.

Are Hypoallergenic Cosmetics the Solution?

Hypoallergenic cosmetics are products that makers claim cause fewer allergic reactions than other products, and they really are a help to those with sensitive skin. Hypoallergenic cosmetics contain a minimum of problem ingredients, such as preservatives and perfumes which will cause skin irritation and other allergic reactions.

However, there is a controversy surrounding the labeling of hypoallergenic cosmetics. Manufacturers of cosmetics labeled as hypoallergenic are not required to submit substantiation of their claims to the FDA, (Food and Drug Administration). For the past four years, the FDA has been working to clear up this confusion by establishing testing requirements that would indicate which products are truly hypoallergenic.

A cosmetic would be permitted to be labeled hypoallergenic only if scientific studies on human subjects showed that the product caused a significantly lower rate of adverse skin reactions than similar products. The manufacturers would be responsible for carrying out the required tests. UNfortunately the guidelines have not been finalized yet, and manufacturers may continue to label their cosmetics as hypoallergenic without any supporting evidence. Undoubtedly most products that claim to be hypoallergenic actually are, but be a perceptive consumer; read labels carefully, do some studying yourself, and do not rely solely on manufacturers claims.

Consumers concerned about allergic reactions from cosmetics should be aware that no cosmetic can be fully guaranteed against an allergic reaction. Even products that have organic ingredients can cause allergic reactions. If you have an allergy to certain plants or animals, then you may have an allergic reaction to cosmetics containing them.

If you experience an allergic reaction to a cosmetic, you should stop using all cosmetics until you and your dermatologist can find out which ingredient or combination of ingredients triggered the reaction. Even if you have used a special cosmetic for years with no problems, you may still develop an allergic reaction. This can occur as you become sensitized to one or more of the ingredients.

Why not try Mineral Cosmetics?

Mineral cosmetics are quickly moving out of dermatologist clinics and deluxe spas to a retailer near you. Certified organic products and non-toxic makeup are becoming more mainstream as they demonstrate that they are as effective as those of the leading cosmetic companies. Women who use mineral cosmetics are said to experience less break-outs as these cosmetics do not contain chemical preservatives.

This non artificial makeup is the simplest, most natural, and non-reactive form of cosmetic. Mineral cosmetics are made from minerals and inorganic pigments that exist in nature. Because it is not made from organic materials it cannot produce bacteria so there is no need to add chemical preservatives.

Endless combinations of beautifully colored minerals, such as zinc and iron oxides, mica, titanium dioxide, and ultramarine pigments are used. These can be combined to make every cosmetic from foundation to shimmer powder for the body, to eyeshadow . They are finely milled and purified then treated or coated with other pigments to create different colors and effects. Mica for example, is a transparent mineral which is mined from the earth in thin sheets. Using he mica mineral allows your natural skin tone shines through due to the sheer, translucent, and skin-hugging effect of it.

With mineral makeup you get all of the coverage, color, and sophistication, without the chemical preservatives, and dyes. Mineral foundation looks and feels much more pure, without sacrificing coverage. It allows the skin to breathe while protecting all skin types. The light mineral powders let skin breathe naturally and will not settle into pores. If you’ve ever had trouble finding a foundation that matches your skin tone or locating that correct eyeshadow color, you will love mineral cosmetics.
